Little Rock, like each of the FBI’s local field offices, has a community outreach program that complements and strengthens our many efforts to protect you, your businesses, and your families in concrete ways through a range of activities and initiatives. Our recent activities include: The Little Rock Field Office hosted an Hispanic Heritage Month Diversity Awareness program on September 17, 2013. Guest speakers for the event included: Lupe Pena Madison and Maria Guadalupe Touchstone. Lupe is employed with the Little Rock School District as a ESL Instructor. Lupe shared a story of her families transition from Mexico to the United States. Maria is employed with the North Little Rock School District and is the Associate Director for “Seis Puentes” (Six Bridges), an Hispanic Outreach Center. The Hispanic Awareness Month program was hosted by FBI Little Rock Citizens Academy Alumni Association Board Members; Lisette Yang and Charles Cervantes. Following the program FBI employees enjoyed delicious authentic Pan Dulce, Mexican pastry; Tex Mex Sopa (Spicy Tex Mex Soup); Jamaica Water (Tea made of dried Jamaica Flower.) The The purpose of the Back to School Kids Expo: Increase health awareness by providing health demonstrations, activities, materials, demonstrations, and information; Motivate participants to make positive health behavior changes; Increase awareness about how to play and stay safe by providing materials, information, activities, and demonstrations; Darla Bryan, FBILRCAAA member distributed FBI child safety information to include the FBI Child ID App brochures, FBI Activity booklets and Safe Online Surfing flyers. The LRFO participated by distributing FBI Child ID Kits, FBI Child ID App brochures, Safe Online Surfing and Internet Safety information. The Little Rock Field Office Employee appreciation Day was help on Friday, August 16, 2013. Approximately 75 employees and 140 Family members took part in the day’s festivities. Interactive demonstrations and exhibits were provided by ERT, SWAT, SABT, Training, Firearms, Community Outreach, Little Rock Activities Committee and the Electronics’ Technicians. Attendees were ultimately treated to a luncheon prepared by Executive Management. Little Rock’s Employee Appreciation Day was a welcome respite filled with music, fun, fellowship and food. SA James Wagnon with Jaylon and Anthony On August 20, 2013, the Little Rock Field Office hosted a Current Threat Briefing for members of the FBI Citizens Academy Alumni Association, InfraGard, Arkansas's Congressional Delegation, and Pulaski Technical College Campus Police. Participants learned about current crime trends in local communities and the latest crime statistics.Way to Go Arkansas!!!! The LRFO attended an event hosted by the Consulate of Mexico in Little Rock to commemorate the 203rd Mexican Independence Day. The event celebrated Hispanic culture, traditions and more importantly, the historic relevance of the fight that gave birth to Mexico as in independent nation. COS Hoskins pictured with Carey Smith, Program Manager at the SW Little Rock Community Center COS Maria Hoskins participated in a Crime Summit, hosted by Healing Hearts in Spirits, and held at the Leodis and Goldie Warren CDC, Little Rock, AR. The topic for the panel discussion was “Community Safety.” COS Hoskins presented information to those attending on FBI Community Outreach Programs. Representatives from the U.S. Attorney's Office, Arkansas State Police, Little Rock Police Department and University of Arkansas Little Rock, Department of Criminal Justice. Director’s Community Leadership Award (DCLA): The FBI recognizes the achievements of individuals or organizations in the community who provide outstanding service by presenting the annual Director’s Community Leadership Award. This award is given to those who are actively involved in drug, gang, crime, and violence education and prevention. Our 2012 recipient was Joyce Mosley Raynor, Founder and Executive Director of the Center for Healing Hearts and Spirits in Little Rock. Among our other ongoing efforts: Meeting with minority groups and civic organizations to talk about what the FBI can do with them and for them and hosting town hall meetings as needed to dialogue on key issues; Sending our special agents and others from the FBI into schools, businesses, and civic meetings to explain emerging crime and security threats and to provide specific advice on how to prevent being victimized by these threats; Supporting the graduates of our Citizens’ Academies, who often band together in local alumni chapters to create crime prevention programs and other initiatives that benefit communities; Serving on committees and boards for businesses, schools, community groups, and social and health services and launching drives to bring food, gifts, and toys to the less fortunate during the holidays and other times of the year; Encouraging citizens to step forward to report crime and serve as witnesses in court; Distributing Child ID kits at football games and other events; and Hosting Adopt-A-School programs that put volunteer agents and staff members inside classrooms to mentor and tutor “at risk” kids.
